San Diego

David and my 9th year anniversary is coming up so we wanted to take a trip.  Our tradition when we lived in TX was to stay on the River Walk in San Antonio each year but we thought we would do something a little more local this time!  We had to tote munchkin along with us (which by the way, for our 10 year we plan to do Hawaii without baby bear!) so we tried to make it a kid friendly trip.

We stayed at a resort called  Paradise Point which is basically it's own little island and each of the rooms is it's own little cabana.  When we got there we were very pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a beachfront suite!! It had a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and patio with two sun chairs and the most spectacular view.  I told David before we left I was hoping for some Disney-like magic...and this pretty much did it for me!

Our first day in San Diego we went to a town called La Jolla.  I found a great sushi restaurant to surprise David and he was in heaven.  Even Bella enjoyed her lunch with chopsticks (and is pretty good at stabbing her food!).  We then went to a place called The Cove which is a beach where the sea lions hang out.  It was gorgeous!  We spent the rest of the day by the pool at our hotel.

Skillfully using her chopsticks
Checking out the view
 Sea lions everywhere
 Me and my boo
Enjoying the sand at the hotel
She did NOT want to get out of the water when it was time to go...typical kid!

The next day we went to LegoLand.  Unfortunately there were minimum height requirements on all the rides so Bella only got to go on three things but LOVED every minute of it.  She kept saying "ride boat"!  The park was beautifully landscaped and as you can imagine everything was made out of Legos which was really neat.  They had a splash pad which Bella had a ball playing in.

The new exhibit at LegoLand was a Star Wars display-this was all made out of sand.
 Bella's favorite boat ride
 Loving the train too
REALLY loving the airplane!
 Building a Lego tower
 Playing in the splash pad
Bella giving Darth Vader a pat on the back!
High five for Bob the Builder

Day 3 was spend at SeaWorld.  The weather was overcast and chilly but luckily it didn't rain.  I must say, I think the SeaWorld in San Antonio is better in terms of bigger exhibits and better rides but we had fun nonetheless.  Bella really liked Shamu but was a little freaked out by the dolphins.  They had an awesome kids area where she got to ride ALL the rides and it was Sesame Street themed which made it all the better (B loves all the Sesame Street characters because we have so many books with them in them-she knows all their names).

Starting the day off with some tooth brushing-I'll brush yours if you brush mine!

Wow, that's a big fish!

Loving the jumping pad
Abby's teacup spin
 Sesame Street in 4D
 Grover and Elmo

Our last day was spent at the San Diego zoo.  Wow, that place is HUGE but we actually saw the vast majority of it.  There were animals I had never even heard of before and can see why people talk about this zoo all the time.  First we walked it and then at the end did a bus tour and cable car ride.  Bella learned how to say "koala" and I think that was her favorite part-if you ask her what she saw at the zoo, she'll tell you "koala".  My favorite exhibits were the elephants, camels and polar bears.  What a great way to end the trip.

What better way to start the day than with some animal tattoos (elephant for Bella, Wolf for mommy, Lion for daddy)
 Rockin' away
Now you can see why I chose the elephant tattoo for her...clearly one of her favorite animals

Hmmm, which of these sea lions is not like the others?!
Baby bear actually fell asleep while studying the park map-navigating the zoo is hard work!
Petting zoo-not as fond of goats as she is bunnies
Bella makes this germ-a-phobic mama proud, she loves to wash her hands and is very insistent upon using soap.  I want one of these Bella sized sinks in our house!

David and I have been so blessed to have taken so many incredible vacations over our 9 years of marriage.  It's so different traveling with a toddler but it was still a lot of fun-it just meant being back at the hotel by 7pm each night.  On our list of things to see in California: San Diego-check!
