Bella's Birthday with Friends

I will be completely honest-I think having a birthday around Christmas kinda stinks and no matter what anyone says, you get a little jipped.  My goal is to never let Bella feel like her birthday is not its own special day and to make sure that her birthday and Christmas gifts never get combined.  So David and I decided we would always do a party with family on her real birthday, the 23rd of December, and then do a party with all her friends the first weekend "back to school".  So this past weekend we invited Bella's friends over to celebrate.

We weren't sure if we were going to have to cancel at the last minute because Bella had not been feeling well.  She got her 12 month shots last week Tuesday, ran fever/was very lethargic/no appetite/diarrhea Wednesday, not much better Thursday, worse on Friday.  We finally took her to the pediatrician who seemed convinced it was a reaction to the Hepatitis A vaccine.  She said since she wasn't running anymore fever she wasn't contagious and to go ahead and have the party.  Saturday morning Bella woke up with more energy and even began to eat a little bit so we let the party festivities begin.

All Bella's friends are wonderful people we have met just at the park down the street from our house and the kids are all around the same age.  Us mom's often do girls night out together so despite only knowing them for 6 months I feel like we've been friends forever.

The party was at 10am so I cooked a breakfast buffet and the kids played, had cupcakes, and we did presents.  Bella is such a blessed little girl-she got some cute outfits, bows, and some great toys!

 Sweet girl!

Thank you to all our wonderful friends for celebrating with us.  This just adds to our wonderful California memories!!

So anyway, Bella seemed progressively better as the day went on so in the afternoon we decided to go to a car show.  Unfortunately on the way home she threw up all in her car seat and had a few more episodes of diarrhea that night.  As I write this it is Tuesday and she is FINALLY getting back to normal although now she has a nasty cough.  POOR GIRL!!!!  I'm not convinced all of that was truly vaccine reaction but it certainly makes me hesitant about her next round of shots!!

I know Bella is already 12 1/2 months but I haven't written about her "new tricks" in awhile so here are some new things she can do:
-she is SOOO close to walking but refuses to let go of my one index finger!  She cruises very independently which means she is into every kitchen cabinet and all over the entertainment center (she loves opening and closing the DVD player!).
-NO MORE PACIFIER!!!!  We went a little overboard by letting her have it 24/7 on our road trip over the holidays (we only used to let her have it at bedtime) so when we got back we went without it cold turkey.  It took 3 days for her not to fuss when we put her down but she's fine now.
-She can point to her head, ears, nose, mouth, feet, pants, and jacket.  She will point to her head when you ask where her hat goes and her feet when you ask about her shoes or socks.
-She can say "shoes", "daddy", "hi", "look", "uh-oh", "EIEIO" (and she'll even say it at the appropriate time during 'Old McDonald').  She also can tell you what the cow, duck, snake, lion, sheep, and dog say!!! Today I would say "one, two" and then she would go "eeee"!
-Anytime she hears the word 'round'/'roll' she will roll her arms like the 'wheels on the bus'
-She can sign 'eat','drink', 'more', 'all done', and the newest is 'please' and 'thank you'
-She will give her baby cuddles/kisses when you tell her to give her baby love.  She will also present her cheek when I ask for kisses.
-she knows how to work most of the apps on the iPhone that are for kids
-she has to draw on paper when she sees me writing.  She can hold the pen really well.
-she can put her spoon in the cup and then in her mouth.  She can't scoop any food yet but she definitely gets the concept.

I feel like she is changing daily and growing up so fast.  Once again, Happy Birthday Isabella Rose!
